COMMUNITY BASED APPROACHES TO FIGHTING CORRUPTION IN UGANDA
This project aims to build knowledge of the importance of the community as expert resources, and to develop strategies to encourage the involvement of the people to taking an active role in the fight against corruption in Uganda. This project is developed on the need to encourage people participation in the protection of resources and finances that are put in place by government but inherently belong to the people. I feel that the current methods used in fighting corruption in Uganda are dominated by the authorities who make decisions on how complaints are received, investigated and recommendations implemented. This approach does not involve the people who are constantly aware of the programs put in place by government need to have the feeling of ownership or responsibility towards them. Because of the lack of concern by the people they do not readily cases of misuse or mismanagement as they arise and feel that it is the responsibility of government and not theirs.
This project is intended to develop strategies to incorporate more people participation through consultation in the fight against corruption in Uganda. To achieve the project’s aim I intend to utilize a collaborative approach with Ugandans and friends of Uganda to develop strategies to achieve this aim. The project is mainly consultative and to disseminate these ideas I aim to develop a monthly news letter to which people can contribute and it will be published on the blog site and hopefully distributed to anti corruption agencies in Uganda to enhance awareness and action towards more people involvement.
